	Founded in 2016 by María Romero, Spanish – Mexican Textile &#38;amp; Fashion designer.&#38;nbsp;
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Studio María Romero grew out of a deep-rooted passion for color, fibers and textile construction. The studio, founded in Brooklyn, NY and recently relocated to Hudson, NY, explores the convergence of cultural traditions, sustainable design, and fine craftsmanship mixed with industrial practices. We produce heirloom pieces that are unique and imperfect just like us, humans. We create a better future by embracing our past.

María Romero Studio was invited to give color to Colonia Verde’s Food Court space at The Armory Show, 2019. Under the Creative Direction of Maud Lerayer (Behind The Hill) &#38;amp; Mavena Botanica ( Vanessa &#38;amp; Meghan )


Using onion skins from Colonia Verde’s kitchen food waste we dyed eight cotton hammocks and 30 yards of cotton rope in different yellow/green shades to be suspended from the ceiling above the tables of the seating area.&#38;nbsp; 
Live plants were placed inside the hammocks, creating a green experience that offered The Armory Show visitors an enjoyable and refreshing lunch break before getting back to more art. We also dyed six cotton market bags, using madder root, indigo, cochineal, avocado pits and onions. The mesh market bags were hung along the wall in the self service area of the food court, giving a color scheme to the space that recalled freshness.

The Yaro Design Collective explores ritual, value and historical forms in everyday objects. Their current collection brings together collaborative works from multi-disciplinary designer Andrea Kamini Parikh, architectural designer &#38;amp; builder Alexander Kuzio and contemporary design curator Jude Hughes.

	Garden Pleasure

	
This project is an inhabitable scenography of seven ‘figures’ sustaining a gathering space and a framework for engagement with the New Haven arts community. 
Over the course of two months, collaborating artists and community partners will develop the space through a series of treatments in, of, and around this analogical garden. 
The cast of participants included local art and educational organizations, students in the Yale Schools of Music, Drama, Art, and Architecture, graduates of these programs, and other independent contributors with connections to New Haven. Between events and performances, the scenography and seasonal treatments rest, inviting visitors to shed normative gallery behavior and explore, inhabit, rearrange, and play with the flexible elements of the garden. The piece is designed and organized by Daniel Glick-Unterman (M.Arch ’17), Ian Donaldson (M.Arch ’18), and Carr Chadwick (MFA ’17). (2019)


María Romero Studio, was invited to create flexible, soft and explorative elements for the garden. We designed forty body pillows that were present at the garden during the whole program, for users to intectarc with the space and the seven “figures”. Users were able to grab the pillows and attach them to their bodies to walk around, lay underneath the figures, explore and immerse themselves in the garden in an intimate way.

	El Cielo de Miami


Textile installation for The Sabah Dealer at The Standard, Miami, 2019.

We were invited to design a Textile installation for The Sabah Dealer popup residence at The Standard Miami. From my previous visits to Miami I was always mesmerized by the colors of the sky in the Magic City, from sunrise to sunset there was always a color game happening above my head and upon my eyes.  
50 yards of fabric, silk, cotton, linen, hemp and a pair of Sabah shoes. 

We turned the white fabric into a colorful range of different shades using indigo, marigolds, onion skins, avocado pits, cochineal, and madder root to mimic the Miami’s sky from sunrise to sunset.

Using different fabric constructions, weights, textures, the natural light and the Miami breece we created a vibrant installation that welcomed the Sabah Customers with a natural flow that made their shopping experience even more special.
